I HIGHLY suggest the Moby wrap. I love mine and I'm sure most users will agree with me. I've been carrying my 3 month old since she was 4 weeks old. The minute I put her in there she falls peacefully asleep.
I'm an active mommy that also has a toddler... I constantly have to run errands and my baby is put in the wrap while my toddler walks or is in the cart.

Standard cribs are most commonly made of wood, although they can be plastic. They often have either one or both sides that drop. The same is true if you buy from overseas. Many people buy baby equipment on eBay these days and even if it is new, it may come from countries where safety regulations are not necessarily so strict.

Here is what you should check if you have a used or foreign crib:

- The slats on the side should be no more than 2 3/8 inch apart. This is to prevent baby's head being trapped between the slats and it is vitally important. If you have an old crib where one slat is loose or missing, do not use it.

- The corner posts should not be higher than the sides by more than 1/16 of an inch - unless the crib has a canopy, when the posts should be at least 16 inches higher than the sides. This is to prevent baby's clothes or bedding being caught on the corner posts and possibly becoming a strangulation risk.

- Check that the wood is smooth to avoid injury from splinters and see that there are no loose joints, brackets, screws or other fixings. Any paint or varnish used must be baby safe. This is not always the case with older or antique cribs.

- The mattress must fit into the base well. If you need to buy a new mattress for an old crib, be sure it is the right size. You should not be able to fit more than two of your fingers between the mattress and the sides of the crib. The bottom sheet must fit the mattress well so that it does not slip. Again, these rules are to prevent your little one being trapped in any way.

If you are going to get a convertable I would but the twin bed rails for it now, incase the crib goes discontinued so you will have the pieces together!

How To Sew A Baby Blanket

It is very simple to make a blanket from fleece or flannel fabric - just cut and hem! A good size for a baby is one yard of fabric with a width of 40 - 50 inches.

Make it special and personal by embroidering a design or the baby's name. If you do not have embroidery skills, buy a cute embroidered patch to iron or sew onto the blanket.

For a warmer blanket, use a layer of cotton batting between two layers of flannel or one flannel and one printed cotton fabric.

How To Crochet A Baby Blanket

Assuming that you know how to do a basic crochet stitch you can make a simple blanket starting with a chain the width of the blanket and then forming rows with double crochet stitch. This could be all one color or you could change the yarn every few rows to form stripes, or use multi colored yarn. When you have the full size blanket, work one row all around the edges for a neat trim, making 3 chain at the corners.

Alternatively, crochet different colored squares of 3-5 rows each and attach them together. Use two or more pastel colors that contrast well for a checkerboard effect.

For a more unusual blanket you will need to follow a pattern. Check before you start that you understand all the stitches that are used in the pattern. It can be very frustrating to find after much work that you do not know how to do the stitch that holds the key to the whole pattern.

A hand knitted baby blanket can be an alternative to crochet. Use the plain knitting stitch (not knit and purl) or for a more solid blanket, moss stitch (one knit one purl, doing a plain stitch where there was a purl in the previous row and vice versa). Again you can either knit the whole blanket at once in one color or stripes, or you can knit squares and then sew them together later.

Using the method of joining individual squares, you can even make the blanket grow along with the baby by adding more squares as the child gets bigger.

It is important to choose your yarn carefully. Buy something that is suitable for babies. For a baby with very sensitive skin you may want to use 100% cotton instead of wool or synthetics which can make a baby itchy.

What kind of blankets do you buy for a newborn?

I am 37 wks pregnant and have the crib set up but right now I am wondering what kind of blankets a baby should have. I dont' want to get him the wrong thing as I do not want to cause SIDS. So what kind of blanket do you put on your infants bed, if any?

A newborn can be swaddled. They will be way more comfortable that way, because it resembles how they felt in the womb. However, You can only swaddle a baby for a month or two, because they start to get wiggly and don't want to be cooped up in a blanket. They best thing to do at that point is to get sleepers and/or blanket sleepers, these are both comfortable and safe for the baby.You don't risk the baby getting tangled up or suffocating from a blanket being pressed against their face. My daughter is 3 1/2 months old. Now that it is getting cooler outside, she just hangs around the house in a onesie, but at nap time, I will us a light receiving blanket, because I am there to keep an eye on her and be sure that the blanket doesn't end up in her face. At night I put her in a sleeper, and she keeps warm. You have to be careful not to overheat the baby as well. If you keep your house hot and heated in the winter time, put the baby in a thin sleeper. Your baby should be comfortable in whatever you are comfortable in. Just a tip, My baby loves to hang around and cuddle with plush blankets. Babies love that soft feeling, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a few of those, just for baby to cuddle with.
